Dental Implants in Tampa, FL

Dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone as tooth root replacements. These titanium posts fuse with the bone and act as a foundation for a crown, bridge, or other restoration. Implants feel and function like natural teeth, restoring your smile and preserving your jawbone health. Race Track Smiles provides single-placement implants and full-mouth implants for replacing multiple teeth.

If bone loss prevents you from receiving traditional dental implants, we’ve got you covered. Our team offers zygomatic dental implants, which are used when there isn’t enough upper jawbone to support traditional implants. Instead of anchoring into the jaw, zygomatic implants are secured in the zygomatic bone (cheekbone), which is denser and provides strong support.

The Dental Implant Process

The process for receiving dental implants typically involves several key steps:

  • First, we evaluate your oral health, take X-rays or scans, and develop a treatment plan once we confirm dental implants are the right option.
  • In the placement appointment, we will remove damaged or remaining teeth in the area. Then, we surgically place a titanium post into your jawbone.
  • In the next three to six months, the implant will heal and fuse with your jawbone, ensuring its secure placement.

Restoration Placement and Aftercare

  • Once healed, we will place a connecting abutment and a custom-made crown or restoration to give you a natural function and appearance.
  • Regular follow-up appointments will help us ensure everything is healing correctly and your implant successfully functions.

FAQ

  • Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

You may be a good candidate for dental implants if you:

    • Have one or more missing teeth.
    • Have healthy gums and no untreated gum disease.
    • Are in good overall health, as healing is essential.
    • Don’t smoke or are willing to quit during healing.

A dental exam, X-rays, and a consultation will help us confirm if dental implants are right for you.

  • How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants can last 15 to 25 years or more with proper care. The implant post is often permanent, while the attached crown may need replacement over time due to wear. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, regular dental checkups, overall health, and smoking or teeth-grinding habits. With good care, implants are a long-lasting and reliable tooth replacement solution.

  • Are dental implants painful to get?

The dental implant procedure is generally not painful, thanks to local anesthesia and optional sedation used during the procedure. Most patients report feeling pressure rather than pain. After surgery, some mild discomfort, swelling, or soreness is normal and can be managed with over-the-counter or prescribed pain medication.
