Ideally, most patients need a dental checkup every six months to remove plaque and bacteria, prevent cavities and gum disease, and catch issues early. However, more frequent checkups may be recommended if you had extensive gum disease in the past, frequent cavities, diabetes or a weakened immune system, and wear orthodontic appliances. Our team will suggest a customized checkup schedule based on your needs.

What's Involved in a Dental Checkup
Before your exam starts, we will review your dental and medical history and discuss any concerns or issues you may have. Next, your teeth are cleaned with special tools to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Your teeth are polished and flossed to remove surface stains and leftover debris and plaque from your cleaning.
If necessary, we will take X-rays of your mouth so we can see potential problems not detectable during a visual exam, including cavities between your teeth, bone loss, or impacted teeth.
02.
Following Your Dental Checkup
When your checkup is complete, our team will recommend treatments and/or preventive measures if needed. And before you leave, you can make your next dental checkup appointment.
If an issue or potential issue is found and additional treatment is suggested, we will discuss a treatment plan.

What’s the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?
The main difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning is how far below the gumline the cleaning goes and the reason it’s performed.
Regular cleanings are done for patients with healthy gums. Plaque, tartar, and stains above the gumline are removed to prevent cavities and gum disease.
Deep cleaning is for patients with gum disease. This treatment cleans below the gumline to remove plaque and tartar from tooth roots, reducing inflammation and promoting healing.
We will recommend the appropriate type based on your gum health.
